What Is Entertaiment?

Entertainment means agreeable occupation of the mind, diversion, or amusement. It may also refer to an artistic expression of the imagination, such as a play or a poem. It can also be a social activity, such as dancing or playing games. Or it can be a means of attaining perception or highbrow growth, as in the case of a symphony or a political satire.

While technology has dramatically altered the availability, cost and variety of forms of entertainment, its core principles remain largely unchanged. For example, the story of Scheherazade – one of the most famous examples of professional storytelling in Persian culture – has been retold numerous times in music (by composers like Rimsky-Korsakov and Ravel) and film, as well as in innovative video games.
